Tab Closet is for people who keep useful tabs open because closing them feels like losing them. It turns that pile into a local archive: close stale tabs in one action, keep where they came from, and find or reopen them later.
The browser extension archives tabs into a searchable visual vault. You can move them between folders, rename those folders, add notes, capture screenshots, reopen a single tab, or restore a whole group. Cleaning rules can protect pinned tabs and tabs you have used recently, so a crowded window becomes manageable without turning cleanup into deletion.
Archived tabs, folders, notes, settings and screenshots stay in the browser profile. There is no Tab Closet account and no cloud copy of the vault. Core archiving and local content-similarity grouping work without an AI provider. This keeps the useful part of the product available even when a network, model or service is unavailable.
Optional AI organization sends only the title, URL and meta description needed to name and sort a tab, plus existing folder names when a result can be filed into one. It does not send page contents, screenshots, form data, cookies or a copy of browsing history. The privacy policy describes each operating mode and the small amount of service metadata used for free-tier limits.
Use it to close stale tabs safely, group a research window by topic, keep a searchable reading backlog, or turn frequently revisited tab sets into reusable folders. It is a browser productivity tool rather than a general-purpose AI assistant, and it exposes no public API that can operate somebody's browser without the installed extension.
